Lungo la gola

Illustrations for Lungo la gola, by Alberto Nessi, Blu cobalto con cenere (2000), Bellinzona, Casagrande
The images are part of my master project at Ars in Fabula School of Illustration, Macerata, Italia, 2022 – 2023.

The poem refers to the painter Walter Kurt Wiemken, who was found dead in the frozen gorges of Breggia on January 24, 1941. He was an expressionist painter whose work frequently dealt with themes of death, illness, and suffering. He also had a surrealist period.
The poem is metaphorical and speaks in general terms about life and death, about the eternal nature of nature compared to the ephemeral nature of human life.

The series is the winner of the Ma-G Museum of Avangarde’s annual illustration award 2025.
